Question OH My Gosh.....NOW WHAT?

Ok, so Z starts again with her squawking this am. She steps up, and then jumps off my hand, with this feather falling out! It is loaded with dried coagulatted blood on the end, but it looks as if she has been chewing at it which would leave me to believe there is a part that is still in and irratating her. She is not dripping blood, and is eating but what do I do??? She is screaming like crazy if we approach her to step up. If we leave her alone, she eats and chirps and talks to herself. I am so upset. OMG I will use my daughters camera to send pics now!!!!

She lost a blood feather. If she is not bleeding I wouldn't worry too much.
If she will let you, give her a bath.

I agree, if it's not bleeding don't do anything. If it bothers you and you've never pulled a blood feather you can take her to the vet and have them pull it. Remember also that birds feed off our energy and if you get upset and she senses something is wrong it'll stress her. I'm sure she'll be fine though, she'll probably pull it out herself.

Hi again, Thank you all for your advice. It helped to alleviate alot of my stress for her. So yesterday went a bit better. Hubby could get near her enough to leave her a peanut in her bowl. He said it was just like starting all over again like when she first came home! Argh. She has been chattering, singing and yelling at the dog, eating like usual, but not playing rough like she does with her toys. I am hoping like you said, she will take care of the feather herself. She has not bleed at all. Believe me, I have been like hawk eyes! I will keep watch. And again, I truly appreciate all the kind words and advice!

Danielle; you will do just fine. now you are prepared if there is a next time. We all tend to panic when something out of the ordinary is going on with our birds...thank goodness, there is usually a simple explanation. That is one reason Parrot Chatter exists..to share our experiences with each other.

Thank you both for the kind words. I truly appreciate them. It is truly amazing that a site such as this exists. Not only is everybody knowledgable about birds, but everyone is so kind and understanding when others panic and may or may not have an emergency. I'm so glad I am a part of this board!

Zakiya seems to be better today. I am not pushing her to step up, but she did climb down the cage and over to the hassack where hubby "rescued" her. So that was good as our eardrums haven't healed from the past 2 days yet. She is eating fine and talking up a storm. Still not playing rough with her hanging treat ball as she always does, but I am just grateful for the small steps so far. As I type, she is calling for Hondo and telling him to sit! LOL Again, truly thank you all, it was very scary and I so appreciate your kindness.
