For those of you with reptiles My husband has shown an interest in having a snake or lizard as a pet. Many, many years ago we had an iguana who was just incredibly nasty and we found him a new home with a more experienced keeper. When we had him though I was always scared of the salmonella issue with reptiles. I have done some research and have found out that almost all carry it within their digestive tract which basically means their poop has the bacteria in it. If the reptile walks through or slithers through it's poop wouldn't the bacteria be on them too? I know common sense plays a part in this but isn't there still a risk to my feathered babies being that bacteria could kill them if they contracted it? I guess I would just like to hear others opinions on this. Thanks in advance. |
