Default Help Emergency

I have a very sick bird and I'm 100miles away from a vet that hasn't called me back yet. My bird is losing liquid out his beak and his anus, I think it's blood and water coming out the back end. There was blood in his food bowl. I don't know what to do or what is wrong with him. I don't know if he has the flu. He has not been out of his cage or eaten anything new or strange. I will drive to the vet if I have to, but in the mean time I'm scared for him

Paula, I dont think anyone will be able to help you with this. This is a true emergency in my opinion. Was he around another bird, consume anything different, any new toys he may have ingested? Was he eating and pooping ok prior to this?

No, he hasn't been around any other birds, nor any new toys. Nothing is different that I know of.

Im no expert at this but, Im gonna try to help you, until you can get a vet, which I highly recommend you do! Is the bird acting normal? Where is it perched?

Paula, please do what you can to get him to a vet. As Leigh said, this is serious, and he needs to be seen asap. Time is of the essence, and any delay could be critical.

Im really concerned this bird will dehydrate before it gets to a vet! It could be kidney failure, a virus, or an infection.

Do you have any vet closer than that? Doesn't have to be avian.
Is there any wildlife refuge nearby? It does sound to me like he ingested something.

Paula have you fed the bird any egg recently? Or any fresh vegetables uncooked?

Here is some info...Avian Emergencies

I would take perches out of his cage - leave one, low with just enough room to clear his tail. Do you have any pediolite or Gatorade? Give him some _ if he won't drink use a syringe.

Oh, gosh - didn't think of that!
I wish she would answer us.
Hopefully she is on her way to a vet.
