Default Sold baby conure with her new family

When I sell babies it is always bittersweet. Two weeks ago my last baby went to her new home. I do keep in contact with the new homes and often quite a few phone calls happen in the beginning especially if this is a first biggish bird.

This baby now called Baby stayed with me longer since the new family wanted to get the cage and home ready for the birdie. I was also a bit concerned about her feathers but did suspect that Tess was doing a little over preening. She is now covered in beautiful feathers so I guess in hindsight it was Tess without a doubt.

It seems this baby has already found the way to rule the family and is trying to talk. She is calling hello in her gravely sun voice to make sure the people come. It seems to be a very good home as she is invited to the table. She willingly steps up and cuddles the entire family.

Charming and Cinderella, her parents seem to produce talking suns. Honey her older sister has yet to talk. Honey is extremely quiet for a sun so maybe one day she will decide to talk. I have always wondered if genetics have anything to do with talking or not. The only pair that have ever produced talkers are Charming and Cinderella. Mom & Pop, Peanuts parents seem to produce very loud, bold,
(not very bright, dont want Peanut to see this)in with the action children.

They first had to test the aviary, I always try make sure they know what it is to own a sun before getting the baby and this why I don't sell to pet shops.

A dozen suns all screaming intruder alert at the same time has turned off many would be sun owners. Suns take watch birding seriously they way more alert than our doggies, well they only do watchbird duty in the daytime.

That was a great read. I can imagine it must be bitter sweet, as I'm sure you have become quite fond of Baby. I really am impressed with the way you are handling the breeding part. Do you use dummy eggs when you are concerned about the numbers?

It is nice to know the pedigree of pet - I think it really plays a big part in mammals' personality as well as their physical appearance. I think it is probably true with all creatures.

The suns don't over breed and because they get to keep the babies for a while it acts as a natural birth control. They don't get into the hormone overload. They take rests between clutches so I don't cause them to breed to the max. They lay 2-4 eggs and hatch 2-3 mostly lay 2 and hatch 2. There have even been single chicks. I have found if I remove the chicks too quickly they don't rest between the clutches. I don't think suns can have fakes as they abandon eggs very quickly if infertile, they seem to know within a week if the egg is viable or not. I think they would just lay again and I believe this is what happened to Nemo's mom. She laid and abandoned too many eggs in a short space of time.
This plan does not work for the budgies since the hen will go back to lay while dad is still looking after babies outside the nest. The budgies I control numbers simply by taking the boxes away.

I wish that I could have seen Simon's parents and you are the kind of breeder that I would buy from. It is my personal belief that babies left with the parents make a better companion and get some of the skills they need to be a parrot. I am not sure that I would be able to let any of them go and would worry about them but I guess it is something you learn to cope with and is just like letting our human kids go off to college you want to see them go and be happy but don't want them to go at all.
