Help Shane Get to the Rainforest in Peru!

Shane is an intelligent, eco-activist high school student who has been accepted into the Peruvian Rainforest Conservation Project.

Shane has been trying to raise the $4000 necessary to participate in the program for 2 yrs. He is about $1500 short. The program starts in mid-July– he is currently going door-to-door and to shopping centers asking for money. I have no doubt he is going to Peru!

He lives with his Mom in MD and has maintained excellent grades while working part-time in a pet store and other odd jobs. He is the parront of Jack, a young female Blue and Gold Macaw and, earlier this year, an elderly relative asked him to take Petey, an older Amazon, since she could not properly care for him. Petey has been in the family for many, many years and Shane was supposed to inherit him but the relative decided to rehome him with Shane now. Obviously, this is a very special young man.

I have known him online though two other forums for about two years and have been impressed with his affection for his parrots and level of commitment to their care, while trying to balance his educational goals, family responsibilities and a part-time job.

That's because he has been working, keeping his grades up, he now has 2 fids that need his attention so he hasn't been posting a lot anywhere. But he promised to post pictures from the rainforest to all the boards whose members help him reach his goal.

It all adds up! I also told him that I would pledge 10% of any BIRDIEBREAD orders I get this week from this board and another to send to him through Paypal.
