Default Flying

Anyone have any ideas on how to encourage flight...?? Yes...ENCOURAGE it...lol. Harley is really great at "come here"...walking....now. And she is starting to fly around the house more and more and even gaining some control. The other day she flew from the living room through the kitchen down the stairs to the playroom and crash landed on the floor.

Today....she flew from her play stand, masterfully around a corner, and skillfully landed on the back on a kitchen chair. But it's real random when she does it. It's not even once a day yet. And we'd prefer her to fly around the house then walk.

Also, I would like to get her to start FLYING when asked to "come here" rather then walking...

Suggestions anyone?!?!?

P.S. I was super proud of her flight earlier today...you should see how excited she gets!

Peanut was like this also because he was clipped before. I started by calling him so that a jump with a flap would let him step up. Gradually I moved away so that he had to get airborne to reach me. To this day he refuses to fly high, he flies about my shoulder height but this is ok.

Put him on a perch, back of a chair or whatever.
Stand maybe 6-8 ft away with your arm out.
Just stand there like that for however long it takes calling his name. (I would say up to 36 hours.)

Yeah, but the first part could work. That's how I train mine. Just get a little further away each day.

Have you and someone else stand across the room from the other with one of you holding the bird.. Proffer your birds favorite treat to it and get really, really excited and say come, come then have the person with the bird toss it towards you. Try to catch it, if it lands away from you pick the bird up, give him a treat and very excitedly praise him. Being happy and excited is key. Repeat process ad nauseum.

I would do it this way also. At first you may only be a few inches away. You can increase the distance little by little once he gets the idea. Lots of praise and treats!

Yay Harley!!!!

This can also work but with peanut I cold not because he would take the opportunity to bite my kids before the toss.

I too am interested in this one keke hates to fly and would rather walk every where. When we do get he to fly she is upset for a while. She comes when called and will only fly on her own if there is no other choice. She doesn't know how to go down stairs so if she really wants off the deck she will fly but only when there is no one watching mostly dad though.
