Fireworks Tips Loud noises and bright flashes of light can stress most birds. Keep doors and windows closed. Close shades and drapes during the day if they will be bothered by a lot of outside activity within view.
Supply some diversion noise; During the day you can turn on calm soothing music or turn the television to the cartoon channel for them. You can turn the sound up a little more than usual to soften outside sounds.
At night move your bird to a room where the windows can be covered or cover its cage. Blankets tacked to windows will darken the room as well as muffle outside sounds. Turn on an air purifier, humidifier or air conditioning for some white noise to also soften outside sounds.
Holidays with fireworks is the time to keep your birds indoors! A sudden noise could startle them and you could lose control as you’re transporting them to an outside enclosure. Do not leave clipped birds outside on chairs or play stands. A clipped startled bird can take flight.
Keep fireworks out of your birds sight. Many have bright colored paper on them that can be very attractive to them and it would be dangerous for them to chew them.
Remain calm so that your bird does not pick up on your stress over the fireworks. Be patient if they’re having an uneasy day. They have a very good hearing and while we may not hear something alarming, they may, and you may be the recipient of a bite. So be especially alert to body posture and mood. |
