Default Need Advice

Hey everyone!

Ummm I just got offered a quaker....free of charge. Comes with 2 cages. Actually....Maple's ex sibling. My cousin just doesn't have the time anymore. His name is Oscar, and they think he's about 10 years old...he was a rescue. He's real cute and talks a lot, and is real friendly and gentle. So of course I wanna take him.

Just don't know anything about quakers....so anyone care to share...I need to know anything and everything! Behavioural stuff, diet, etc etc.

Right now we are planning on taking the little dude....it'll be in 2 weeks that he would come home..so I need to learn all I can before that time.

Thanks in advance!

Although I've never owned one ....

I think they are adorable. With 2 Macaws, it should be a walk in the park.

I've never had one but everything I've read says - this could be just the bird for me. They are such clever builders too - I'd love to watch that.

For you it would be like having a pocket pet.

I love quakers too although I don't know enough to field any of the questions you have But as Jac said, they're quite the builders - somewhere on here someone posted an incredible video of a quaker's creation, it was really amazing. If I can find that link I highly recommend watching it if you haven't already.

I have had a few Quakers. Both were fairly gentle but rather messy.
Like my Grey's, I fed them bulk food that I mixed myself. Fruit, veggies, almonds, pellets, a little seed. I buy food by the pound which helps because each of my birds like something different.

Oh, yes...forgot about that. Give him plenty of building materials. Wood, paper, straw...You would be amazed at how busy it keeps them.

My Shrek is not a builder nor a weaver-some Quakers like to take newspaper strips and weave them through the bars of the cage. He does like to climb on top of his cage and burrow in the cage cover. He may be unusual because of his background of few toys, etc. It's just a year that I have had them and he is just learning to gnaw on wood-but he sure loves his bells! Yes, he is messy so don't put the cage too close to the wall plus he tosses whatever he doesn't want to eat out of the cage! BTW, he loves green beans, apples, baby carrots, broccoli, red swiss chard, rotini pasta, hard boiled eggs and, of course, BIRDIEBREAD!
