#1 | | | Libby's story Some of you know the story of how I inherited Libby. Her first owner was in the process of a divorce. The lady had Libby a B&G and a Too. The divorce was pretty nasty. One day the woman came home from work to find that her ex had taken his shot gun and shot the birds. All died except Libby. She decided, for Libby's safety , to find her a new home. Richard, was her second owner. Richard was a good friend of mine who happened to be blind. He would take Libby out to the lani and let her roam but sometimes could not find her to put her back in her cage, so, he would call me to find her. Rick had Libby for about 10 years when he was diagnosed with cancer. At the end, Rick was so out of it that he didn't recognize anyone nor would he speak. His wife and I would go to the Hospice daily to visit. We would sit and talk to him not knowing if he could comprehend anything or not. One night, his wife asked him who I was and, he answered. His reply...well, you know who that is, she's Libby's new mom. That was the last thing Rick said before he passed away a few hours later. I was listed in Ricks will which he had made up a year earlier. I have had Libby now for seven years and once in a while she will still yell out...Richard, oh Richard...where are you Richard. That makes me both sad and happy. Sad that Rick is gone, happy because Libby remembers him. |
