Stranded Roseburg parrot now safe at home
RIDDLE — An African Grey parrot named Clay is safe at home after two nights stranded in the forest, thanks to a few cell phone calls she made.
Roseburg’s Carrie Boothe and her boyfriend, Rick Katana, had taken Clay camping with them in South County, but on Saturday, something spooked the parrot away from her pistachios. Though her wings are clipped, the bird caught a breeze and disappeared.
“I was just freaking out,” said Boothe, 49, who put a down payment on the parrot before the bird hatched 12 years ago. “…She’s really part of the family.”
