I've made a huge breakthrough! Ginsu and I have a ritual. In the mornings when I feed her I can touch her beak through the bars and she doesn't hop away, she kind of makes a "raspberry" sound. In the evenings when I'm taking her food bowls out and refreshing her dry food & water she follows me and does the same. I'm not sure who gets braver each week her or me, but she'll take my finger in her beak and make the same noise.
Tonight was great! I fed everyone else and finally got the her cage. She followed me to each bowl and as usual I stuck my finger in and she gently took it and gave me a raspberry. Well I put my whole hand in and she didn't move! I was able to scritch her on her chest, around her eye, her ears, her head! She actually closed her eyes and leaned her head into me! She seemed disappointed when I stopped but was happy to get a new snack dish.
John and I agreed to put doors up in their playroom so that I can take her out in the playroom and not have to worry about her flying into the bird room or worse on top of one of the macaw cages. I'm hoping to have the doors up within the next couple of weeks.
In the meantime, I'll continue with what I'm doing and hopefully next week she'll allow me to put my hand in through the door. |
