Animal Humane Society rescues 200 animals Animal Humane Society rescues 200 animals
in one of its largest cruelty cases
The Animal Humane Society seized more than 200 animals from a farm in Olmstead County in one of its largest cruelty cases.
The Olmstead County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Animal Humane Society when they received reports of animal neglect at a property in Viola Township. Olmstead County Sheriff’s department deputies investigated the property on May 16 and found a number of dead and decaying animal carcasses. They enlisted the assistance of the Animal Humane Society after this visit.
The Animal Humane Society’s Humane Investigator Keith Streff and the Sheriff’s department returned to the site on Thursday, May 22 after obtaining a search warrant and finding animals in deplorable and unsanitary conditions in what appeared to be a puppy mill setting.
On May 23 Animal Humane Society’s rescue team removed 131 rabbits and 73 dogs, mainly small breeds (Pomeranians, Chihuahuas, Boston Terriers and Pugs). The animals will receive medical treatments upon their arrival at the Golden Valley facility.
Because the case is under investigation, the animals are not available for adoption at this time. AHS is hopeful that they will be in the coming weeks.
