Default 45 Year Old B&G Macaw

We just picked up a 45 yo b&g. His owner had taken ill about 7 months ago and is now in a nursing home. The macaw was basically left alone for 7 months with a "care taker" feeding him once a day (a hand full of peanuts only). There was about a foot of poop in the bottom of his cage and no toys. His beak and nails are extremely over grown. For 45 yo he certainly has a playful personality. I'll post pictures of him in the morning.

Just curious - was that his only home for all those years?

Wow, I sure am happy that bird is now under your care Jeanne.
45, I sure hope he wasn't eating just peanuts all that time.
Thank you very much for helping that bird.
You shine.

Wow, poor bird, to be with someone for that long....he must be confused. Do you know which home the owner went to? Maybe the bird can visit him from time to time? Help ease the transition for both of them.

Jeanne thank goodness you're there for him. Such a shame that he's had to go through this. Especially at his age he deserves the best care, and I know he'll have better days ahead under your care. If he goes onto a forever home I know you'll make sure he's treated like the grand one he is.

It's great that you took him

At least he hasn't been going crazy his whole life changing homes... otherwise he would be much more stressed.
It's sad that he has gone these past 7 months by himself basically and only eating peanuts.

I am sure you will take wonderful care of him
