Default My local wild birds

I've been busy trying to photo document all of the birds that visit my feeders and bath every day. I've finally got a few decent pics to share - and bear with me as I'm still learning about the features on my camera (such as ZOOM lol).

I adore this little guy, this is one of the Chickadees that visit daily:

I just want to put him in my pocket and pinch those chubby cheeks!

I have a pair of mourning doves that are always around, they are so lovely in flight. This is one of the pair, and I haven't been able to get a decent photo of the two of them together yet. But where one is the other is not ever far behind.

Here is my pair of Gold Finches taking a drink from my bird bath, they stop to drink daily. Sorry about the distance on this one, this was before I learned how powerful my zoom can be:

Here is just the female Gold Finch:

The Sparrows love to pick through the mulch, they are there every morning and evening picking away, so tiny and cute:

Ok, now I know this is Lulu and she's no wild local bird - but look behind her on the seed wreath. It's hard to tell, but I think that's my Tufted Titmouse feeding behind Lulu (I love her skinny crest-up reaction!):

We also have a pair of Cardinals that visits daily but I have yet to get decent pics of them. Here is a not so great pic of the male:

Stay tuned for pics and video of my dear Downy Woodpecker!

Here is one of my favorite guys who visits me up close daily, my male Downy Woodpecker. This seed and fruit bell hangs next to our large window and every time I see him there I stop and watch him:

And here is a short video of him in action!

Nice going - soon you'll be as good as Nate. Try out all those features.

My Mom was saying they have a new bird feeder. I suggested more Sun room fly time for Alice - she loves to watch the birds at the feeder. Their bird bath has a ceramic bowl on a metal post/leg. Does yours sway much in the wind? - I've seen the water wave & wash over the sides, on my parent's.

- aside - Alice is doing well without Moe. She gets out more & is really spending more time with her humans.

Sarah, the sparrow you have is a Chipping Sparrow - affectionately known as a "chippy".

Thanks! I bought a picture guide to the birds in my area and I think it listed that guy (from what I could tell anyway) as a Common Sparrow. At least I got the Sparrow part right, I thought he was a finch before I got my picture book

Psshhhh, I'm light years away from Nate's photography skills

No, my bird bath doesn't sway in the wind, it's fairly heavy.

I'm glad that Alice is doing well without Moe.

Feel like I have been on a nature walk! Thanks! Simply beautiful. I really like your bird feeder, but didn't it come with a free squirrel? Where is he?? LOL

Actually the squirrels can't get to that seed & fruit bell - it's on one of those wire hangers and it hangs near our window. No squirrel has even attempted it. I didn't get pics of our other actual feeders, one is a tube feeder and the other is a suet feeder. We do throw cracked corn and sprinkle seed out on the lawn though so the squirrels don't have to work too hard lol.

That woodpecker is AWESOME!!

If you want to attract more goldfinches... try a thistle sock... it is a net bag that you put niger thistle in. Mine is about a foot long and usually has 12-15 birds on it at a time.
