Default The Budgie lads are busy.

1 I took Sarah's lead & offered Balsa wood for them to play with. I gave it to them after Christmas. Last week they finally got into it. This week I gave them a bigger piece & now I have 2 pieces on top of the cage as they fight over it. You'd think they were beavers!
This is Laker's piece - all done this morning before I took it away from him - he was in a frenzy!

2 & 3 I came home this afternoon & I saw this when I walked into my bedroom. If I didn't know my cat was gone I'd have thought she'd caught one! ..... this came out of the ceiling fixture - either Rio just plucks out his molting feathers & drops them or when he takes off they fly out of the fixture.

I have to clean the ceiling fixture every weekend ......

Oh my what a fright to see that right now I have little feathers everywhere. anytime jojo moves he looses some and he does sit there and flutter his wings without moving anywhere and out comes all these little fuzzies.

tomorrow i am going to find some balsa. I hav e been looking for some here and have not been able to find a place that sells it. but managed to find a person who builds model airplanes and who has a lot of this balsa. so will see what jojo does with it.

I didn't realize that was called balsa wood. Spice has some in a toy and just loves it. It is the only thing I have seen him really shred.

Jacquie - didn't mean to frighten you more - the molting shouldn't be so frightening. *sigh* It must be so hard for you right now - after all that you have gone thru with your Budgies.

I have to sweep or vacuum 2x's a day these days -the place looks like a pillow exploded + all the wood chips!

Nancy
- Yep that's balsa wood - obviously very satisfying.

here's some more photos from this morning.

The back of Laker's cage - Rio peels paint so I put toys there to chew. & here they are working the objects on their cage.

Sarah gave them the corn leaf toy last summer. Rio is enjoying it these days. Strangely they leave the beads & bell alone.

Corn Husk mat I made 2 years ago - pieces of it on the floor.

Laker working the balsa & Rio's turn. He also likes the ribbon.

PS - if you look closely you will see that the walls are changing colour! [ yellow turning to green ] - This has to be the slowest painting project of all time. My paintings are everywhere. I can only paint 1/2 a wall before I fear for their safety. They also leave the room for my son's, when I'm painting [he's sleeping in right now, so no work for a while - late night]

Boy does that look familiar. All of the wire on my aviary looks that way by the end of the week (when I hose it all down)--these are midweek shots.

I'm glad that Laker and Rio are discovering balsa wood!! Jerry and Lulu just love it. Winston hasn't caught on just yet but one day I think he may. They remind me of little beavers too when all that's left is tiny little shavings

Our budgies like balsa also, they also do books, very fine confetti, hardly notice it. They also like debarking mulberry, very soft bark and easy for tiny beaks.

Thanks for the reminder about the Mulberry. Spring is in full throttle around here. Are the leaves OK too? - better check. There are lots of them growing around here & most along the local creek - no spraying area. I'll take my clippers & nip a few.

Then there are the Willow trees/saplings - I'm not too fond of the 'smell' of willow.

The balsa is like mini lumber - it is easy to cut to any shape or size - once you locate a supplier. I was happy to see it at a large art store chain.
