...But all the attitude!!
Montague got into a scuffle with an Eclectus hen, and didn't win... The eclectus removed the upper beak, as you can see... The incident happened quite some time ago, and as you can see, the injury has healed well.
He was hospitalized for a few days right after it all happened- but recovered quickly! The vet gave him pain killers and antibiotics for a while, which we administered via a syringe. Within weeks, it had healed, and looks like this now.
The only lasting problem from the incident is that the lower beak needs to be trimmed from time to time. Our avian vet showed us how to do the trims, it isn't tough if you know what you are doing- But PLEASE don't try it unless someone shows you exactly how!
He can't eat seeds- but that is OK, because he has ALWAYS been on a pellet diet. The adaptability of these birds is incredible- He learned to live with the handicap, and gets along just fine!!
And- He's no less feisty than before. I don't think that Lovebirds know that they are so small (Which is what led to the altercation in the first place!).
