Default Tired of cleaning up newspaper from under cage? NEW: Door Skirts!

Hi Everyone....I posted this on a couple other bird chat groups and receveid such positive response and it was suggested to me that I post this on the other chats as well so that I reach more people.

You know how there are luxury cages out there that have a skirt/seed guard that go around the perimeter of the base of the cage? Well, when the door to the cage is open, the existing skirts don't extend out enough to cover the width of the door...and so for YEARS now I have been placing newspaper and mats underneath my cages to protect the floor from poop and debris. I have 4 parrots and they can make a mess! So I designed and patented a “Door Skirt”. It is an easy-to-mount, removable and positionable skirt that is powder-coated to match various colors of cages and comes with a removable disposable liner. For months now I have not had to clean up any messy paper from underneath my cages. It has been AWESOME.

The combination of a “lipped” bracket and slotted skirt design allow you to be able to slide the skirt left/right so that you can open/close your cage door without interference. You can mount them at the base of the cage door or toward the top so that poop does not get caught and collected on the doors handle/latch. They will fit most all luxury style cages (like CA Cages or Avian Adventure cages, YML, etc….the wrought iron/barred cages (not mesh or lighter-weight cages of plastic material).

My website will be up within a week (maybe two) and I have an ad coming out in Bird Talk magazine within the next several weeks. Custom orders will be welcome.

Attached are a couple of pictures. In some the skirts are not powder-coated so that you can see the detail. And some of the skirts looks bigger than in other pictures because that was my original design...I have since made them more slim. They can be taken right off the cage (but don't have to be as you could just take out the liner and put a new one in). I am still working on the liner.....right now I am just using paper towels but am waiting confirmation on an appropriate liner design. Please share your thoughts! So far all the stores and other parrot owners that I have shown them to locally just LOVE them and are anxiously waiting availability of them. I actually have samples ready now (well, except for the liner…you have to use paper towels or something similar for the moment). I would very much like to hear your opinion and suggestions (pos or neg) and if you are interested in a skirt or learning more about them please email me at: cash59@msn.com Thank you!

Well hi! Thank you! I have received such a warm welcome on this board -thank you so much! I have two African Greys (Peter and Maggie) and a Blue Front Amazon (Chirper) and a Yellow Naped Amazon (Rex) - they all (except Chirper) talk a lot and are the most fun pet I could ever imagine having. They are just messy though! Sheesh! LOL.
Thank you for your enthusiasm about my skirts...would you like me to send you more pictures? I can to your direct email if you like....let me know..my direct email is: cash59@msn.com or info@doorskirts.com (my site not up yet but email works) Thanks again.

Very cool idea - nice to see someone developing an idea.

After bird sitting a Grey, I can say this would have been a great idea as she loved sitting on the door. The door wasn't always still either as she loved to swing it back & forth. I lost count of the times I cleaned the floor.

The owner had removed the cage skirts [perhaps just for the visit], but I would use them on the side most used for pooping off of as well. I think the portable feature is good & placing them up higher too. The skirt all round makes the cage really too big.

I'll send her the info. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Parrot Chatter.
Interesting invention you have there.
Sadly, they won't work on several of our cages.
But then there are those that they will work on.
Here's what we use at this time.
And as you can see, the mats don't always catch everything.
I guess the way I look at it is, if I am going to be scrubbing the floor anyways, why bother with even the mats, there simply another item to work around while vaccuming and another item to clean.
Pickles Cage/Green Quaker

Athenas Cage/Female TAG

Buddy's cage/ Male Tiel

Pollies cage/Female Green Quaker
The birds room/9 cages

Our birds are everywhere on there cage, and as you can see, there droppings are everywhere.

Hi There - Actually the skirts WILL work with your cages. I have the exact same cage as the first picture you list and have a skirt on one now. The skirts come in 3 different sizes and since they slide left/right (so that you can open/close door without interference from the skirt) you can mount say an 8" skirt on a door that measures anywhere from 6.75"-9.5", the 11" skirt fits doors that measure from 9.5-12" and the 13" skirt fits doors nicely that measure from 11.5"-15". The slots and multi-hole punched brackets allow you to position the bracket no matter the bar spacing of the cage. My website will be up soon and I can always email you more pictures.
