Dawn/Moses
If your out there Dawn, please read!
Thank you for trying to help that little Dove.
That torn crop is a very nasty wound.
The wound will need to be washed well, I use Dawn antibacterial dish soap, rinse well.
The feathers will need to be plucked around the wound, so the bandage will stick.
depending on the size of the wound will determine the size of the bandage.
Dry the area well so the bandage sticks, apply neosporin and the bandage.
A pro biotic will help a great deal to help with infection.
Offer half an asprin (crushed up) for pain.
The picture tells me this little bird is in the worse way, that crop has a lot of damage (for what I can see).
I advise you contact a wildlife rehab person as soon as possible, a wildlife center will be to quick to put that little one down, a rehab person will do all possible before putting any animal down.
Allow the bandage to remain on the bird for a few days before changing the dressing, offer half a asprin each day for pain.
Offer water in a 2 inch deep bowl.
offer white millet and or parakeet seed.
It maybe best to hand feed, Kaytee Exact baby bird formula for a week or so.
Keep the little one warm as I advised in my e-mail.
I am going to be honest and upfront, that injury appears bad.
If you are going to go the distance to help that little one, please know it is going to require much from you.
The little one may not make it, this depends on the flesh, whats still there to work with and heal.
if this is a rip, it may heal okay, it may need stitches.
If the flesh is gone, then the little one might not make it.
Locate a trained wildlife person as soon as possible.
Thank you again for all you are doing, my heart is with you.
Lets all pray!
For both of you!
